Low “E” Glass
“Low E” or Low emissivity glass is not new to the industry. Low E glass was invented in the late 70’s. We began to see residential applications in new windows in the early 1980’s. Most recently the Cardinal corporation has created some new techniques that allows for more efficient, more affordable and higher heat blocking properties than ever before.
What is Low “E” Glass
In a nutshell, Low E coated glass reduces the amount of UV or heat producing radiation that passes through the window. This is not a “tinted” window or a “mirror” coating but an almost invisible layer on the inside of the double or triple pane window. In the winter, a quality Low E argon or neutral gas filled window can significantly reduce heating costs. In the summer the reflective quality of the Low E glass can keep the home cooler longer and reduce cooling costs. All of this is accomplished with very little visible light blockage.
